Why a valley, and why this one

We were not looking for a resort. We were looking for a valley where the walk from one front door to another does not cross a road, and where the adults could still get a morning of work done before the afternoon takes over.

Cerdanya is wide and high and it sits with one end in Spain and the other against France. Cerdanya Viva sits inside it as a working project, with its own gardens, its own energy, and a long ongoing argument with waste. That last part is a large reason we kept coming back to it. We want our kids to spend two months somewhere that is still trying, not somewhere that is finished.

Two months is longer than we have ever run. It is also the length families keep asking us for. One month is enough to settle. Two is enough to belong, and long enough that the second month costs a family far less friction than the first one did.

April and May in the mountains will not be easy every single day. We would rather put that on the page than in an email afterwards. There is a section further down that says exactly what the weather does here, and we have not softened it.

This is our first cohort in Spain, and we are building it out loud. The host read every line on this page before we published it.

From the valley, soon,
Lauren & Tiago

Lauren and Tiago are the co-founders of Cohli and parents of two (Maya, 5, and Koa, 3). Over 40 years they have lived and travelled through 30+ countries, and have been designing family coliving since 2024.

Cohli cohort in Spain
A working eco-resort in a high Pyrenean valley

Cerdanya is a wide, high valley in the Catalan Pyrenees, close to the French border. Cerdanya Viva sits in it as a working eco-resort with its own regenerative project, which is a large part of why we chose it. Families stay in apartments in a single walkable cluster, so an evening at a neighbour’s door is a short walk rather than a drive. Parents supervise their own children throughout, except during the scheduled hours of the children’s programme.

The photographs on this page are Cerdanya Viva's own, used with the host's agreement. If you are reading this and one of them is no longer right, tell us and it comes down.

Accommodation

Two apartment types, one bedroom and two bedroom, allocated to families by size and shape. Every home has its own kitchen and its own bathroom. Heating, water, electricity and wifi are in the rate rather than metered separately. One clean a week and a weekly change of linen and towels. There is a communal laundry, and each wash runs on a token costing 4 euros with detergent included. Which type your family has is confirmed in writing before you pay anything beyond a deposit.

The Surroundings

The valley runs at altitude with the Cadi range on one side and the French border at the far end. Villages, rivers and meadow trails are within reach of small legs, and the bigger mountain days are a short drive rather than an expedition. Barcelona is the usual way in. We publish exact travel times once we have driven them ourselves.

April and May are spring at altitude

This is not a beach cohort and we would rather say so now. Cerdanya is high, and spring in the mountains arrives in pieces. Expect warm afternoons and cold mornings, some rain, and snow still visible on the ridges well into April. Bring layers and proper shoes for the children.

What you get in return is a valley waking up. Long light by May, meadows, rivers, and mountain days that are within reach of a family with small legs. It is the kind of weather that sends everyone outside in the middle of the day and back indoors together at six.

What a month here holds

This cohort is self-catered, which changes the shape of the week. Here is what sits inside what you pay.

🏠

Your own apartment

A one or two bedroom home with its own kitchen and bathroom, in a single walkable cluster with the rest of the cohort. One clean a week, a weekly change of linen and towels, and heating, water, electricity and wifi included in the rate. There is a communal laundry, and each wash runs on a 4 euro token with detergent included.

🎓

Children's programme on site

Weekdays, staffed by our own educators, for ages 1 to 12, built around ages 3 to 9. Under 3 and over 12 we work out with you one family at a time, before you book. Outside programme hours children are with their parents.

Outside those scheduled hours, children are with their own parents or guardians. That line is deliberate and it runs through the whole month.

The daily hours are still being set with the host. Our 2027 standard runs into the afternoon rather than stopping at midday, because families in 2026 told us plainly that the afternoon gap was the hardest part of the week. The exact hours appear here once they are agreed, and not before.

🍳

Self-catered, and one table a week

Every apartment has a private kitchen. There is a farm shop and a restaurant on site, and families buy from both directly, subject to their opening dates and rates. We confirm the spring opening of each with the host before anyone books. We are not selling a meal plan for this cohort. Once a week the cohort eats together and the cooking rotates, so nobody hosts twice in a row. Where it happens depends on each apartment’s maximum occupancy and on the house rules, so some weeks that is a terrace or a shared space rather than somebody’s living room.

🏊

The facilities

Coworking, gym and pool access, and host-directed activities subject to booking, age rules and capacity.

There is more on site than that. We have asked the host to describe what else families can use and on what terms, and his description goes here rather than ours.

Two spa circuit accesses per family per week, subject to booking, capacity limits, age restrictions and the house rules.

The pool and the spa are family time, not programme. There is no lifeguard on duty, and children use them only with their own parents or guardians. They are never part of the children's programme.

🏞

One outing a week

An excursion or a group activity for the whole cohort, organised with the host. The valley does most of the work here. Anything that needs an external professional, transport, tickets or materials is bought separately, and priced before we go.

👥

A facilitating family on site

A facilitating family lives on site for the whole two months. They are who you knock on the door of when something is not working, and they hold the opening circle, the parent circles, the rhythms and the quiet repair work.

What a week looks like

There is a rhythm, not a rigid schedule. Two months is long enough that the shape settles by itself somewhere in the second week.

Weekdays
The children's programme
On site, with our own educators, for ages 1 to 12, built around ages 3 to 9. The daily hours are being set with the host and appear on this page once they are agreed.
Weekday daytime
Parents work, rest, walk
The coworking room, the trails, or your own kitchen table. Nothing is scheduled for adults in these hours, on purpose.
Late afternoon
The cluster comes alive
Children come back to their parents and families end up on each other’s terraces, because everything here is a short walk. Outside programme hours your children are with you. This is the part nobody plans and everybody remembers.
One evening a week
A shared table
Cooking rotates and nobody hosts twice in a row. Where we eat depends on each apartment’s maximum occupancy and the house rules, so it is sometimes a terrace or a shared space instead. Nobody is collecting money from anybody.
Once a week
An outing with the host
The whole cohort, organised in advance and priced in advance.
Weekends
Yours
Some families travel, some stay. France is at the far end of the valley. Most people stay, because the mountains are the reason they came.
One cohort in 2027, two months long

Spring in the valley, from the first week of April to the last day of May.

Spring cohort

1 April to 31 May 2027

60 nights. Eight families is the minimum for the cohort to run. The maximum is being confirmed with the host, and it goes on this page once it is. Age bands are set by each child's age on 1 April 2027, so a birthday during the cohort moves nobody.

Outside the northern summer holidays, so this suits families who school at home or can travel in term time.

Why two months

One month is enough to settle. It takes about a week to arrive properly, and the deepest connections form in weeks two and three, which is exactly when a four week cohort ends.

Two months lets the second month start from somewhere. It is also cheaper per night than two separate months in two separate places, and it is one set of flights instead of two.

What it costs, in plain numbers

Your month is built from a few simple pieces, all of them here before you talk to anyone. A family of four in a two-bedroom: €6,850 to €6,925 a month. A solo parent and one child in a one-bedroom: €4,650 to €4,700. The range comes from the size of the group: the more families who join, the lower it lands, and you'll know your exact figure on 1 December, before your second payment.

From €4,650
per family / month · 1 adult + 1 child, one-bedroom
Two months, or one when we can pair it
1 Apr to 31 May

The pieces, per family, per month

Two-bedroom apartment · all-in€3,950 to 4,025
One-bedroom apartment · all-in€3,200 to 3,250
Cohli Programme Fee · per adult 18+, max two€950
Children's programme · per child€500
Stay deposit · refundable€1,000

Your apartment, all-in. That is Cerdanya Viva's own apartment rate, the shared spaces and team, and the Pack (pool, gym, spa, coworking and a weekly group outing), with heating, utilities, wifi, weekly cleaning and linen, 10% IVA and payment processing included.

Cohli's Programme Fee. €950 per adult per month, for two adults at most. This is the community, the facilitation and everything that makes it a cohort and not a holiday rental.

Food is yours. Full kitchens, self-catered, with shared meals when we cook together.

Two months or one. We give priority to families staying the full two months. One-month places open when we can pair April and May in the same home, at the same monthly price, and we'll tell you as soon as yours is matched. If we can't pair it by 1 December, you can take both months or have your booking deposit back in full.

The stay deposit is a €500 security deposit, held against documented damage only, and a €500 activities account. Both come back to you within 30 days of check-out, with an itemised statement.

Your family, your price, per month
1 adult + 1 child · one-bedroom €4,650 to 4,700
2 adults + 1 child · one-bedroom €5,600 to 5,650
1 adult + 2 children · two-bedroom €5,900 to 5,975
2 adults + 1 child · two-bedroom €6,350 to 6,425
2 adults + 2 children · two-bedroom €6,850 to 6,925
Worked example. Two parents and two children in a two-bedroom, for the full two months, with nine or more families in the cohort:
€3,950 apartment, all-in
€1,900 Cohli Programme Fee · two adults (18+)
€1,000 children's programme, two children
€6,850 a month, €13,700 for the two months
Paid as €1,200 at booking, €5,650 on 15 January and €7,850 on 15 February, which includes the €1,000 stay deposit.

The Catalan tourist tax is added at the official rate, per adult, for the first seven nights only.

What the Cohli Programme Fee covers

The people, chosen rather than queued. Every family is hand-picked and matched on your children's ages, your rhythms and how you like to live. Not first come, first served.

A place we have walked ourselves. We visit before we sell, we ask the questions families forget to ask, and we take what one cohort tells us back to the host before the next one arrives. You are not booking from photographs.

Everything sorted before you land. Welcome calls, the group chat, the school question, who is bringing what. You arrive already knowing names.

Someone holding the month. The facilitating family, the educators, the host relationship, the logistics. Someone else is holding it, so the month is yours.

You do not leave when you leave. You stay in the community, the threads keep going, and the next cohort is built partly from what yours taught us.

The fee is the same on every 2027 cohort, whether the house is simple or grand, because the work behind it does not change.

In what you pay

  • ✓Your family's apartment, with the housekeeping above
  • ✓The children's programme on weekdays, with our educators
  • ✓The facilitating family and our community programming
  • ✓Coworking, gym and pool access
  • ✓Two spa circuit accesses per family per week, subject to booking, capacity limits, age restrictions and the house rules
  • ✓One weekly excursion or group activity for the cohort
  • ✓Host-directed activities, subject to booking, age rules and capacity

Bought separately

  • •Flights and travel to the valley
  • •Your food. The apartments are self-catered and there is a restaurant on site
  • •Catalan tourist tax, charged separately at the statutory rate in force on the dates of stay. It is capped at seven nights per taxable person, so sixty nights here is not sixty nights of tax. We publish the figure once the establishment category is confirmed
  • •Laundry. The communal laundry runs on tokens, 4 euros a wash, detergent included
  • •Spa accesses beyond the two per family per week
  • •Activities that need an external professional, transport, tickets or materials
  • •Travel insurance, which we verify at onboarding

How you pay

€1,200 booking deposit, at booking
It holds your place and comes off your total. If the cohort doesn't go ahead, it comes back in full. Once the cohort is confirmed on 1 December, it is non-refundable.
Half your stay, less the deposit, by 15 January 2027
Your exact total is fixed on 1 December, before this payment.
The other half, by 15 February 2027
Your €1,000 stay deposit comes with this payment, and comes back to you after check-out.
How your place gets confirmed

You talk to us, you apply, you sign, you pay your booking deposit, and your place is held. This cohort runs only if at least eight families join it. The maximum is being confirmed with the host. We confirm on or before 1 December 2026, and we write to you either way. You will never be left guessing.

If it does not reach eight it does not run, and everything you have paid, booking deposit included, comes back to you in full. If we ever thought a smaller cohort was worth running anyway, we would put that to every family already in it, and anyone who said no would get everything back. Nobody is moved into a month they did not agree to.

Please do not book flights until we confirm. Two months is a long time to move a family for, and April is early in the year to be sure of anything. So the order is: talk to us, apply, hold your place, and book travel only once the cohort is confirmed.

Who this is for, and who it is not

It fits if

  • ✓You want two months in one place rather than four stops
  • ✓Your children are somewhere between one and twelve, and you want them to have a pack
  • ✓You cook, and you like your own kitchen at the end of the day
  • ✓Mountains, cold mornings and long walks sound like the point
  • ✓You want other adults around who are doing the same thing

It does not fit if

  • ×You need reliable warm weather from day one
  • ×You want full board and someone else cooking every night
  • ×You need a fixed school timetable and formal enrolment
  • ×You are looking for a hotel rather than neighbours
  • ×You cannot commit to the dates before flights are bookable
What the valley does with a free afternoon

These are Cerdanya Viva's own photographs of the valley and what happens in it. What sits inside the cohort price is listed above. Everything else is the valley being the valley, arranged when a family wants it.

Who holds what

A Cohli cohort is not held by one person. We operate in clear roles, so everyone knows what they hold and what they do not. The names for this cohort are not settled yet, and they will appear here when they are.

Hosts

Cerdanya Viva

The hosts hold the physical container: the apartments, the land, the gardens, the facilities and the team on the ground. Cerdanya Viva is run by a family rather than a chain, and we will introduce them here once they have told us how they would like to be introduced.

Facilitators · We're recruiting

A facilitating family, on site for two months

Facilitators hold the social and emotional container: the opening circle, the parent circles, the rhythms and the quiet repair work. Facilitating families receive a discount on their participation. Lauren and Tiago provide weekly video support.

Educators

Our own, on site, weekdays

Educators hold the children's programme for ages 1 to 12: arts, nature, project work and real skills alongside new best friends. They are engaged by Cohli, not by the house. This is a children's programme rather than a school, and it does not replace formal enrolment.

Ops

Cohli

We hold the system: matching, contracts, payments, onboarding, the host relationship and anything that goes wrong at eleven at night. We are one message away for the whole two months.

How to reach the valley

Usual way in

Barcelona El Prat (BCN), then north into the Pyrenees by road. Girona (GRO), Toulouse (TLS) and Perpignan (PGF) are the other realistic airports depending on where you fly from.

Drive and rail times

We publish these once we have done the journey ourselves and can put a real number on the page. A guess here would cost a family a missed connection, so there is no number yet.

Visa

Spain is in the Schengen area. Most nationalities get 90 days visa free. Two months is inside that, but the 90 day rule counts any other Schengen days in the same window, so check yours. We share specific guidance after acceptance.

What to bring for a mountain spring

This list will grow once families have been. For now it is what we would pack ourselves.

🥬
Layers, and then one more. Warm afternoons and cold mornings, often on the same day. A proper jacket for April.
👞
Waterproof shoes for the children. Meadows, rivers and mud are the whole point. They will live in these.
🏠
Something comfortable for indoors. Apartments are heated, and evenings happen inside more than they would in July.
🔌
European plugs. Spain uses Type C and F. Families from the UK and the Americas will need adapters.
🍳
Your two or three kitchen things. Self-catered for two months. The one pan or knife you actually cook with is worth the suitcase space.
📚
A few books to share. The communal library grows every cohort. Leave one, take one.
💉
Insurance and any repeat prescriptions. Travel insurance is required and we verify it at onboarding. Bring enough of anything you take daily for 60 nights.
What families are already asking
As soon as it is agreed with the host, and not one day before. Two of the underlying costs are still being negotiated. When it lands, the whole thing goes on this page in full: the apartment, our fee, the children's programme, the deposits, the payment dates and a worked example for a solo parent and for a family of four. We do not send prices privately that are not also on the page.
It takes about a week to arrive properly, and the deepest connections form in weeks two and three, which is exactly when a four week cohort ends. Two months lets the second month start from somewhere. It is also one set of flights instead of two, and cheaper per night than two separate months in two separate places. We are not offering a half stay. A family arriving halfway through changes the cohort for everyone already in it.
Every apartment has its own kitchen and this cohort is self-catered. There is a farm shop and a restaurant on site, and families buy from both directly, subject to their opening dates and rates. We are confirming the spring opening of each with the host, because a closed shop in a self-catered cohort changes the picture and you should know before you book rather than after. Once a week the cohort eats together and the cooking rotates between apartments. Two months of cooking is a real thing to plan for, which is why it is on the page rather than in a welcome email.
The programme runs for ages 1 to 12 and is built around ages 3 to 9. Under 3 and over 12 we work out with you one family at a time, before you book. Ages are set by each child's age on 1 April 2027, so a birthday during the cohort moves nobody.
It needs eight families to go ahead, and the maximum is still being confirmed with the host. We confirm on or before 1 December 2026 and we write to you either way. If it does not reach eight it does not run, and everything you have paid, booking deposit included, comes back in full. Please do not book flights before we confirm.
No. It is a children's programme run by our own educators on weekdays, built around arts, nature and project work. It does not replace formal enrolment and it does not carry any educational registration. Families who need to keep a home school or an online school running do that alongside it, and most do.
There is wifi in the apartments and the shared spaces, and a coworking space on site. The host commits to a connection reasonable for ordinary remote work rather than to uninterrupted service. We have not measured the speed ourselves yet, so there is no number here. We will publish a measured figure, good or bad, before anyone pays a deposit. Until then, plan on a mobile data backup for any call you cannot miss.
